Salon open house benefits ailing resident

LONDONDERRY — Debra Becker, owner of The Mistress and Her Tinkerman Salon at 516 Mammoth Road recently help an open house/benefit to support local resident Brian Winer.

The young chef is battling cancer — for the second time. He was diagnosed with melanoma four years ago.

Earlier this year, Winer, now 26, was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma of the brain and lung.

Doctors discovered 12 tumors in his brain and one on his lung, although these tumors did not show up on his routine skin screenings.

The salon event raised nearly $800 for Winer, according to Becker.

Co-workers Stephen Becker, Jessica Orion Becker, Becky Buck and George Mason all pitched in.

Victoria Cameron offered chair massages and there was quite a line for that.

Steve Riendeau from Spa Medique came. and shared laser and anti-aging skills. Linda Elliot with Avon participated.

There was jewelry, many beauty products, food and drink.

Derry Town Councilor Phyllis Katsakiores supplied many of the desserts. Many of the top beauty companies supplied raffle baskets.

A crowd of more than 50 from New Hampshire and Massachusetts gathered, Becker said.
