Leach Library

hosts a hoedown

Leach Library on Mammoth Road hosts a Old West hoedown on Nov. 26 from 4 to 5 p.m.

The program is for children and families. It includes stories and a campfire singalong. All participants receive a red bandanna.

Preregistration is required by calling the library at 432-1127 or stop by the Children’s Room to sign up.

BPW charity

auction is Dec. 5

The Greater London-derry Chapter of Business and Professional Women is holding its 14th annual holiday charity auction on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Yard Restaurant, 1112 Mammoth Road, Manchester.

All proceeds will benefit the YWCA Crisis Center, which provides direct services to victims of domestic violence in the Greater Derry and Manchester area.

The gala event is packed with fun and plenty of good holiday shopping opportunities.

Auction items are donated by various businesses in the Greater Derry and Manchester areas. Attendees are asked to bring an auction item to the event such as business products, holiday items, gift certificates and services.

Gigi’s Kouzina holds its grand opening

Local Greek restaurant Gigi’s Kouzina, owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Billy and Gigi Palaskas, recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate their grand opening.

Attended by friends, neighbors and town officials, the ceremony was held on Nov. 13. It was spearheaded by the Londonderry Commerce and Visitors Center.

The couple have been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years, as owners of the Brother’s Pizza in Manchester. After taking some time off to spend with family in Greece, they returned to the area with their eldest daughter, Tina Palaskas, to open a traditional Greek restaurant.

Cooking from family recipes that she’s perfected over the years, Gigi Palaskas spends much of her time in the kitchen creating the restaurant’s homemade Greek fare. Menu items range from pizza and calzones to pasta, salads and wraps. The restaurant also offers a daily Greek dinner dish, baked fresh each day, that include pastitsio, baked lamb and haddock plaki.
