SPECTATOR

Setting priorities

Pitchers and catchers reported Monday, a fact not lost on Derry resident Dena Flinkfelt Smith.

“I nixed mix-and-match day at school and put the girls in Red Sox shirts instead,” she wrote on the Derry News Facebook page.

Hot diggity dog

Blue Seal Feed on Crystal Avenue in Derry is celebrating dog days with big sales on all canine items.

To honor all dogs in the area, Blue Seal is hosting a “Yappy Hour” event.

Details, details

Most residents are looking forward to Derry’s Frost Festival this weekend.

But one town councilor admitted at a recent meeting that he didn’t have too many details about the annual event.

“You would think I know a lot about that since my wife chairs the committee,” Council Chairman Brad Benson said.

Feeding the need

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Derry had a super — or “souper” — way to help the community.

The church hosted its annual “Souper Bowl” food collection recently.

At last count, the church had collected more than 600 items to support local food pantries.

Max does it again

Max, Derry’s notable pug, is at it again, earning awards for his video antics.

Max, owned by Martin McCue, was named Number 37 in a top 40 canine video contest at buzzfeed.com.

In the video, Max can be seen barking and playing with his pug body double — a bobble-headed pooch that is nodding as Max jumps and scurries around.

Max has been honored in the past for his video talents.
