LONDONDERRY — The search continues to fill several vacancies in town.
In addition to finding a new town manager, officials must find a new senior affairs director and decide what to do with its vacant Planning and Economic Development job.
Town Council Chairman John Farrell said the interview process may begin soon for the four top applicants for the manager job.
‘And we hope to complete those interviews by the end of January,” Farrell said.
Police Chief and acting Town Manager William Hart told town councilors there’s a lot of interest in the job.
Hart was named interim manager in June after longtime manager David Caron left on a leave of absence. Caron officially resigned a month later.
Officials also must decide what to do with the empty Planning and Economic Development position left open when Andre Garron resigned in October.
For that job, Hart said it might be good to look at ways to fill that job in different ways, possibly with contracted associates to take on the work with economic development and planning for both short and long term.
“We are discussing a variety of possibilities,” he said.
Hart said officials would look at the town’s needs are for the town, and decide whether the emphasis should be on economic development or planning.
“What are the needs of the economic development department moving forward?” Hart asked councilors Monday night. “As we go forward, (do we need) assistance in the planning piece as opposed to the economic development piece? We’ve got some ideas at this point.”
Those ideas include looking at the town’s needs in one year, three years or even five years out, Hart said, plus looking at the money to be spent.
“We can be as productive as we can spending the money,” he said. “We might be able to do it for less dollars going forward.”
More decisions will come after deliberative session next month.
“We will then have a discussion about what direction we want to go,” Hart said.
The senior affairs director’s job has been vacant since Kimberly Bean resigned last month.
There have been 12 applicants for that job and interviews will begin soon.
“We hope to have someone starting in early February,” Farrell said.
