Female police officer makes history

By James Niedzinski

---- — LONDONDERRY — History was made as Sgt. Sharon Coyle became the first female officer in the Londonderry Police Department to earn the rank.

Police officers congratulated recently promoted officers as well as newcomers to the force during a Town Council meeting last week.

Coyle became the first female officer to earn the rank of sergeant.

The new title comes with more responsibility, as Coyle now supervises officers in the field.

“Already she’s been through a number of experiences here, and she’s always exhibited nothing but pure professionalism,” police Chief William Hart said. “I expect more good things from her and so should the community.”

Coyle was joined by new dispatcher Amelia Mc-Keever and new police Officer Narcisco “Junior” Garcia, who is currently attending the New Hampshire Police Academy.

Additionally, Officer Sean Doyle has been promoted to a detective.

“We expect great things this year,” Hart said.
