Cook Up A Cure 4 Brian is a success
LONDONDERRY — Brian Winer is a two-time cancer survivor and has had countless operations to remove tumors from his brain and lungs.
He was diagnosed with melanoma four years ago. Shortly after, he had a tumor removed and was deemed healthy by his doctors.
But he was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic melanoma of the brain and lung earlier this year.
Winer does not have health insurance and cannot work due to his condition. Doctors found more than a dozen tumors on his brain and lungs.
Winer’s sister, Jessica Leavitt, helped organize “Cook Up A Cure 4 Brian” to help raise money for basic living expenses and operations.
More than $5,700 was raised during the raffle and 5K event on the Town Commons last week. Some of the items raffled off were a guitar, two iPads and a digital camera.
“We had a great turnout,” Winer said. “Some of my friends from high school came out and I haven’t seen them in years.”
Some of Winer’s coworkers from the Crave Brassiere and Wine Bar in Amesbury, Mass., ran in the 5K that was part of the day’s events.
“I know they’ll be sore for a while,” Winer said.
After another biopsy on his lungs came back positive an Winer will be getting pinpoint radiation therapy on his birthday, Sept. 27.
