---- — Calendar winners ride in fire truck
Two third-graders from Matthew Thornton Elementary School were honored for their efforts in a state fire safety poster and calendar contest.
The Department of Safety, Office of the Fire Marshal and New Hampshire Fire Prevention Society organized the third-grade fire and safety art contest. The two local winners took honors in the poster category and will be featured in the first Fire and Life Safety School Year Calendar, 2013-2014.
Winning a spot on the calendar’s cover was Annabella Wu from Matthew Thornton Elementary. Maeve Ryan’s artwork will be featured in the calendar for the month of October. Firefighters offered students a ride home in a fire truck last week for their artistic efforts.
Concerts on the Common continue
The summer Concerts on the Common presented by Londonderry’s Art Council continue every Wednesday at the Town Common stage at 7 p.m.
In case of rain, concerts are moved indoors to the Matthew Thornton Elementary School gym or the high school cafeteria.

Litchfield road work scheduled
Beginning in July, the town will reconstruct a section of Litchfield Road located between Misty Lane and High Range Road. At times, the road will be closed to through traffic.

Students win ice cream party
Fourth-grade students in Regan Deignan’s class at North Elementary School were honored with an ice cream party on June 18. The party was a prize for the class and its winning entry for this year’s Old Home Day theme contest.
The winning theme is “Londonderry — Where Friends and Family Come Together.” The 114th Old Home Day celebration is scheduled for Aug. 14-18.
Leach Library offers puppet show
Leach Library offers a summer event “Jack Tuesday: Fairy Tale Investigator Puppet Show” on July 10 from 11 a.m. to noon.
