---- — LONDONDERRY — The town is ready to celebrate the grand opening of its first paved section of rail trail.
Londonderry Trailways invites the public to celebrate the opening of the first completed mile on Nov. 30 at noon at the trailhead off Sanborn Road at the North Elementary School parking lot.
The celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and walk on the trail.
Those scheduled to participate are Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith, representatives from the state’s Department of Resources and Economic Development, Sen. Sharon Carson, Rail Trail project manager Bob Rimol and Londonderry Trailways secretary John Daley.
The first mile of completed rail trail runs from Symmes Drive at Exit 5 to Sanborn Road. The construction project began in early September.
The work, supervised by the town’s Public Works and engineering director Janusz Czyzowski, was completed by Loudon-based Daniel T. Ladd Construction Company.
The project was completed by mid-November and came in on budget. The trail project was also supported by a warrant article passed by voters in March.
Rimol said he hoped many would come out to see the new trail.
“This is their trail and we want to thank everyone who made this possible, and to enjoy celebrating together,” he said.
The event will be held rain or shine. For information on the town’s trail system, visit londonderrytrailways.org.
