LONDONDERRY — It’s time to plan the town’s spring cleaning.
The Beautify Londonderry organization is planning its 2014 community cleanup efforts, set for weekends in May, and is looking for volunteers to sign up to help.
The townwide initiative gathers residents and groups to volunteer their time to clean up their neighborhoods and public locations.
Some groups focus on litter along the roadways, while others make improvements to the community landscape. Projects include raking, weeding and planting at school grounds and fields, Morrison House, Town Common, Senior Center, Kendall Pond and Musquash Conservation Areas, and other town properties,. Litter cleanup takes place throughout the town.
Volunteers can sign up for any of the days set aside for the cleanup.
It’s an opportunity for young people to plan and perform a service project, and for neighborhoods to join for a springtime effort to keep the area clean.
Sponsorships are also welcome to get involved with Beautify Londonderry. Money and other donations from sponsors help the group provide work gloves, safety vests, trash and recycling bags, mulch and plants.
The assistance of the Police Department and highway crew allows for police escorts during roadside litter collection and pick-up. The goal is to keep the activities as safe and as easy as possible.
