LONDONDERRY — Students at South Range Elementary School learned some important lessons about bullying when a professional theater company, known as TIGER, from Plymouth State University performed interactive skits at the school Jan. 20.
This is the ninth year the school PTA has sponsored the program. This year's show emphasized the role of the bystander.
"This is what we have been focusing on at South School," principal Linda Boyd said. "The students hear it every morning on the intercom when we say our South School expectations together: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and SAFETY and IT JUST TAKES ONE."
The concept was introduced to students last year with the reading of "One" by Kathryn Otoski at an all-school meeting.
TIGER is an acronym for Theater Integrating Guidance, Education and Responsibility. It is a collaboration between the integrated arts and the counselor education graduate programs at Plymouth State University.
To create the show, the actors collect writings from children on their show's topic and transform them into scenes, songs and story lines for their performances.
