The first nor’easter of 2014 kept local students home for an extended holiday break last week.
But it also made traveling tough and the frigid temperatures froze water pipes and taxed heating systems.
Despite the mess, some Derry News readers found beauty in the new-fallen snow and captured it in photographs.
One reader, Pete Langlois of Derry, documented the hard work he and son Eric did to dig out a fire hydrant in their neighborhood. Fire departments often struggle to dig out all their hydrants after a big storm and residents can help by clearing the ones in their neighborhoods.
Some residents paid special attention to animals, pets and wild birds, by providing a little extra during the storm.
