LONDONDERRY — A local woman will be allowed to continue to operate a dog business out of her Harvey Road home.
The Zoning Board granted a special exception to Jessica Dupere to operate a dog sitting/fostering business at her home at 7 Harvey Road.
Several neighbors raised concerns about the business, saying there would be extra traffic and dog noise, but zoners gave the OK with several restrictions attached.
Dupere formerly operated her Top Dog business in Derry, but moved to Londonderry in August. She has owned the business since 2010.
“I’ve never had a problem with any of our neighbors before,” Dupere said.
Some Harvey Road neighbors did speak out about the potential for added traffic and noise in the neighborhood.
JoAnn Peterson has lived at 5 Harvey Road for eight years. She told the board she was concerned about her small, residential neighborhood with only five homes. Although she and most of the other neighbors own dogs, having an official dog business next door that causes her to worry.
“There has been excessive traffic since they moved in,” Peterson said. “I just don’t want a business nearby. We love animals and we respect Dupere, but not on our street.”
Jason Coulter lives near Dupere on Maureen Circle and also is a dog owner.
He said his two small dogs are kept indoors most of the time, but if they hear dogs barking in the area, they may become extra noisy.
“I’m worried my dogs will start barking,” he said.
Dupere has about seven employees who work for her in other towns. She said there would be no more than three dogs at her home at any given time and no dogs would be left outside unattended.
She not only offers dog sitting services, but also takes in dogs to foster and care for following illnesses and other situations.
“We just want to care for dogs,” Dupere said. “My clients love me and I give these dogs the best care they can get anywhere.”
Board members granted Dupere’s special exception with restrictions, including no more than three dogs can be on the property at a time and no dogs may be left outside unattended.
