LONDONDERRY — “Grease” is the word for a cast of 40 Londonderry High School students bringing the classic musical to the Derry Opera House stage next week.
“Grease” will be performed Wednesday through Saturday at the Opera House on West Broadway in Derry. Show times are at 7 p.m. Feb. 12-14 and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.
The show tells the story of Danny Zuko, his girlfriend Sandy and their friends at Rydell High School.
In addition to the 40 cast members, another 30 students work behind the scenes on the stage crew and in the pit orchestra.
Londonderry High has performed the show before. This year was a good year for a revival.
“‘Grease’ was a good choice this year because of the caliber of students we have involved in the program,” show advisor Valerie Nelson said. “There are lots of opportunities for students to shine, as well as having a large ensemble always helps. The more students we can involve, the better.”
Musical numbers include “We Go Together,” “You’re the One That I Want,” and “Beauty School Drop Out.” Nelson said the show is full of energy and should be popular with all ages.
“These students have been putting in tremendous amounts of time and energy,” Nelson said. “It has been rewarding for all of us and we hope to have large crowds in our audience.”
Tickets for “Grease” are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. They are available by calling 432-6941, Ext. 2129.
