LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry Senior Center is closed for summer vacation this week, but a full schedule of activities is planned as of Monday, July 7.
That's also the day that Elaine Peters begins her new position as receptionist/administrative assistant. Peters will be working four days a week, and Carol Jablonowski will stay on one day a week.
The center has an opening for an assistant to Director Sara Landry. This position was recently vacated by Bonnie Leshin, who is retiring. Leshin still plans to be at the center having fun with her friends and volunteering.
A potluck lunch with author Ann Kelsey is planned for Friday, July 11, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Kelsey will host a "Dare to Write" creative writing program beginning in August.
The center is air-conditioned and offers yoga classes from July 8 through Aug. 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. The classes, taught by Barbara Scott and Lisa Kress, are designed especially for seniors to increase flexibility.
You can also beat the heat and enjoy a good film on Movie Monday on July 14 at 1 p.m. This month's movie is "August Rush."
Londonderry Senior Citizens Inc. will hold its annual Barbecue and Line Dancing Hoe Down on Wednesday, July 16, beginning at noon, followed by line dancing.
LSCI is also planning a trip to Rockingham Racetrack on Wednesday, July 23. The price is $25 and includes lunch, bus ride from the senior center, entrance to the park, racing program and a special race named for LSCI.
To find out more about these programs and activities, call the senior center at 432-8554 or stop by. The center is at 535 Mammoth Road. A full calendar is also available on the town's Web site at www.londonderrynh.org.
