LONDONDERRY — The annual Kids Fishing Derby will be taking place on May 4 at the Londonderry Fish and Game Club.
The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon, has been a tradition for more than 25 years and welcomes children under the age of 14 to participate in this free event with proper adult supervision.
"The children just have to show up with an adult or parent," said club President Richard Olson Jr.
Prizes such as fishing poles will be awarded to the participants.
The LFGC has purchased approximately 200 fish to have the pond ready for the event, according to Olson.
Olson also said the Londonderry Fish and Game Department matches the purchase they made, giving participants about 400 fish to catch.
An average of 100-125 children show up to the event yearly according to Olson, and he encourages anybody to come and participate.
"It is designed primarily as a family event; parents and their kids can come," he said.
The event will take place rain or shine.
"Last year was a beautiful day for the event but dress weather-appropriate and come with your fishing gear," Olson said.
Participants need to provide their own bait, tackle, and all other equipment.
"Once we give the signal, everybody throws the line into the water and gets ready to catch some fish," Olson said.
There will be food and drinks available for any participants or parents to purchase at the event.
