LEO awards presented at School Board meeting

LONDONDERRY — Members of the Londonderry School Board helped present the seventh annual LEO Awards to 12 worthy recipients at the April 22 meeting.

The Londonderry Educational Consortium, which gives out the awards, includes the School Board newsletter and the InCider Press, as well as LEO21, the school district's educational access channel, LEOnline which is the overall Web presence for the district and can be accessed via a link at www.londonderry.org, and LEO 103, WLLO-LP, the district's low-power FM station.

All LEO content is produced by school district staff, students and community volunteers and entirely focused on Londonderry School District activities.

Award recipients

r Londonderry High School students Lauren Anker and Krissy Hanley were recognized with Outstanding Student Contribution LEO's (TV) for directing remote live coverage of the high school's Adult Graduation and the School District Deliberative Session, as well as for their work with elementary school enrichment clusters.

r High school student Jon Gregg was tapped for a Special Recognition LEO for his work at the high school media lab.

"He has become a fantastic teacher and assistant," said Suzanne Johnson, video production teacher.

"His service has been above and beyond what any student would be asked to do. And the real kicker is, we never have to ask. Jon always volunteers."

r School Board student representative Lisa Detweiller was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Contribution (Radio) for covering Town Election results for WLL0-LP, LEO 103, and for setting the standard for community PSA's with her work on behalf of Warm Homes.

r Chris Thompson, who completed an internship with LEO last summer, was the recipient of the LEO Advisory Board Recognition Award for his first-rate production of a promotional video highlighting the various elements that make up LEO. r Five teachers were cited for their "Outstanding Teacher Web Pages" which they have designed to communicate with both students and parents and to provide documents, learning links and materials to extend their classrooms.

Recipients were Anne Silvius from Matthew Thornton; Reagan Deignan, North School; Katie Miers, South School; Kurt Gualtieri, Londonderry Middle School and Rich Levergood, Londonderry High School.

r The "Most Improved Teacher Web Page" LEO was presented to Heather Larochelle of Matthew Thornton School.

r Recognized for Outstanding Contribution to LEO 21 Programming was Grace Laliberte, special education coordinator at South School.

Laliberte produced a program showcasing the reading program in Londonderry and how educators provide curriculum access and learning opportunities for all students.
