Color my world ...
Derry Town Administrator John Anderson was quite pleased with changes made to the new Panera Bread design.
The popular restaurant is coming to Derry and developers changed the color scheme on one part of the building from a darker color to a lighter sienna clay.
"Sienna, or whatever you call it, is certainly better than the brown depicted before," Anderson said.
Take a seat
When Derry town councilors host workshops, they sit around a table instead of in their official seats at the front of the meeting room.
When economic development advisor George Kassas came before the Council to speak recently, he wanted to make sure he was in the right spot around the workshop table.
"Sitting there, it looks like I'm on trial here," Kassas noted as he pointed out his previous spot in one of those official councilor seats.
Animal magnetism
Students in Katrina Hartlen-Mooers' animal class at Pinkerton Academy have plenty of furry classmates to keep track of.
Sinbad the ferret even had free rein of the classroom during one session, roaming and exploring. Hartlen-Mooers said she has a free-wheeling rabbit at her own home, roaming free and litter-box trained.
Go Patriots!
One of Derry's most historical citizens may have been a football fan in another life.
The home of Matthew Thornton, one of three Granite State men to sign the Declaration of Independence, now boasts a giant, inflatable Patriots player on its front lawn.
Thornton made history in these parts and the Patriots may go down in the books as well.
Answer the phone ...
A ring tone going off at a recent Derry Planning Board meeting may have brought back childhood memories for the board chairman.
"Is that a Jack-in-the-box?" David Granese asked after he heard the happy tune.
Swift exit
The Derry Planning Board is known for concise, to the point, organized meetings. At a meeting Jan. 25, members handled business in a timely fashion and were ready to head home.
"We have a motion to adjourn," Board Chairman David Granese said. "We have a motion, oh, and three seconds."
