LONDONDERRY — Mack's Apples is offering a free peck of apples to anyone who is serving or has served in the U.S. military on Sept. 11 from noon to 4 p.m.
"If you serve our country, we'd like to say thank you," Andy Mack Jr. said. "Come and pick a peck of apples on us."
Any person with a military ID, past or present, is welcome to stop by the "U-pick" stand. Gold and Blue Star mothers also are welcome to participate. Any mother, grandmother or person responsible for the children of a military family are included in this event as well.
There will be a check-in location at the site of the event and registration begins at 11 a.m. at the U-pick location.
Military Appreciation Day is being organized by Roger Proulx from Just Maple in Tilton.
There will be a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at noon with guest speaker retired Capt. Patricia Mack. She was training recruits at the New York Court Officers Academy, three blocks from the World Trade Center, on the day of the Sept. 11 attacks. A sergeant at the time, Mack and her fellow officers rushed to the scene to aid in the rescue. Mack has since received many honors for her heroism that day.
Benediction will be led by Jack Martin, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently a Moore Mart Mideast representative.
The color guard will be presented by Capt. Morrill's Company, a Revolutionary War re-enactment group.
There will also be entertainment, games and face-painting for the kids, refreshments and a dessert treat — all at no cost. Entertainment will be provided by Tom Proulx, Jim Barnes, John Clarke and Don Watson.
Mack's Apples Farm Market will be a drop-off location for Moore Mart, a nonprofit organization that sends goods to soldiers serving overseas. Visit mooremart.org for a list of items that can be donated. Mack's Apples will accept donations from now through Sept. 11.
