A beary snowy day
With last Friday's snowstorm many local events were canceled or rescheduled. That includes one famous bear scheduled to visit Derry.
Smokey Bear was set to make two stops on a Derry tour to celebrate students entering a state poster contest on fire safety.
Due to some slippery conditions he will have to reschedule.
The Derry Garden Club hosts Smokey's visit every year.
A chili night in Londonderry
Hosting a chili cook-off with a Western theme seemed a no-brainer at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Londonderry last weekend.
When visitors arrived, many donned cowboy hats to honor the occasion.
One visitor was asking to speak to St. Peter's outreach committee member Lee O'Connor, who helped organize the chili contest and searched around the room hoping to see him.
"He's over in the corner ... by the pinata," one helpful church worker said.
Is that a crime?
Londonderry police were called to Otterson Road and King Henry Drive in the afternoon March 5.
The caller dialed 9-1-1 to report "a large dog walking."
There's no indication of whether the size or gait of the animal mattered, nor what police did in response.
Lost and not found
Not everyone is a fan of daylight-saving time. Longer days are nice, but the loss of an hour in today's busy world can hurt.
In response to a Derry News Facebook post bemoaning the lost 60 minutes, Kurt Auger had this to say, "Actually lost one this weekend, did someone turn it in?"
