Life’s a beach ...

As the snowflakes flew and the winds blew last week one local driver may have been dreaming of warmer days and sunnier skies.

A red SVU was seen traveling around Derry with the license plate “SALTAIR.”

Successful sales

It was another banner year for tree sales at St. Mark’s Lodge in Derry.

The local Masonic members sold almost all of their annual supply of fresh firs at the lodge on East Broadway.

Churchgoers leaving St. Luke’s United Methodist Church across the street on Christmas Eve noticed only a few tiny trees propped up against the lodge building that didn’t find a home this year. The tree sales support local charities every year.

Market melodies

When Berniece Kaiser does her shopping, some singing might be involved.

The Derry woman frequents the Londonderry Market Basket and often has a song in her heart. Store personnel always get a kick out of hearing Kaiser sing over the store’s public announcement system.

“I just love people,” Kaiser said as she got ready to sing one of her favorites at the store during the holidays.

After she finished, many happy shoppers stopped Kaiser to tell her how great she made them feel.

“Thank you for singing, we needed that,” Milly Buchholz told Kaiser. “It cheers up the heart.”

Snowy and stuck

Once the flakes flew and dropped inches of snow on area roadways last week, local police logs were full of typical snowy day fender-benders and resident concerns about the weather.

“Caller reported she is stuck in a snowbank,” seemed to be the regular call of the day for Londonderry police officials.
