---- — DERRY — On Monday, Aug. 5, at 6:30 p.m., Derry Public Library welcomes Karen Blandford-Anderson of the Derry Historical Commission.
She also is curator of the Derry History Museum.
The event is part of Derry Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program series, “Digging into Derry,” featuring programs about Derry history.
Blandford-Anderson’s talk, “Elizabeth Who?” will focus on a mystery in art and local history.
The Derry History Museum recently acquired a portrait painted by Alvan Fisher in the early 1800s that they are working to identify.
Come and hear about how the portrait was found, its interesting family history, where it was originally displayed, and the lengths to which the Museum staff are going in order to positively identify her.
It’s known that the woman in the portrait is Elizabeth; what is uncertain is her last name, which “Elizabeth” it may be. The portrait is either Elizabeth Reid McGregor (the daughter of Molly and General Reid and the great-great-great grandmother of Starr Faithful) or Elizabeth Thoms Tucker.
This program is free. Registration is suggested, but not required.
