Celebrating the white potato

Maybe local officials ought to take a page from the book of the Canadian Potato Museum in O’Leary on Prince Edward Island.

Derry Village students mounted a successful campaign to have the white potato named the state’s official vegetable.

This fiberglass potato,14 feet tall and 7 feet in diameter, stands in front of the Canadian museum.

Does Derry need something similar?

You say ‘council,’ I say ...

During a budget review workshop last week, Derry Town Administrator John Anderson had to clarify one announcement a bit when it came to future business with the town’s lawyers.

“We will be meeting with counsel,” he said. “The ‘coun- S-E-L’ will be here with the ‘coun-C-I-L.’”

Or maybe HOTTMLE

A red convertible spotted zipping south on Interstate 93 sported the vanity license plate “HOTTMTO.”

We like it, but we wonder whether “HOTTMLE” was already taken.

All ‘fore’ the moms

Mothers are getting an extra treat for Mother’s Day this year if they enjoy an afternoon on the links.

Mothers can golf for free on Mother’s Day, May 12, at Hoodkroft Golf Course in Derry.

Why did the turtle ...

On Friday, Londonderry police were called to South Road to help a large turtle cross the road.

Apparently, the slow-moving reptile was causing a traffic problem.

Turtles are on the move at this time of year and drivers should be ready.
