Pinkerton Academy names it new leader

DERRY — Pinkerton Academy has its new leader.

Pinkerton's Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Griffin Morse as the new headmaster to succeed Mary Anderson when she retires in June.

Morse was one of two finalists for the top job and visited the campus earlier this month to meet administration, faculty and students.

Morse will take on the Pinkerton job after serving for 12 years with School Year Abroad in Spain. The school’s parent organization is headquartered in Boston and operates schools in Italy, France and China.

He speaks three languages and is also a long-time teacher. He has held significant leadership positions in education and business throughout the United States and abroad.

"Pinkerton Academy is especially well-positioned with Griffin in the role of headmaster," said Harry Burnham, president of Pinkerton's Board of Trustees. "As we celebrate our 200th year and begin our next two centuries of excellence in education, Griffin's experience in education, management, technology, communications, business and finance is a great fit to the future of our school."

Morse holds a master's degree in Spanish Literature and Language and from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies in Speech from Northwestern University. Advanced studies include the Latin-Greek Institute of City University of New York, Graduate French Language, University of Dijon, France via Georgetown University and other senior management work.

Morse has deep roots in New Hampshire and is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy. He will relocate to the Granite State from Spain and still has family here.

Search committee member and Pinkerton trustee Kimberly Smith said Morse's selection came after the committee narrowed the headmaster field to 15 top candidates following an international search process.

The search committee was helped by the firm Carney, Sandoe and Associates.
