Curves hosts turkey drive
LONDONDERRY — Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The traditional meals for the holiday vary from turkey and wild rice dressing in the northern United States and Canada to turkey and corn bread dressing in the South. Very different traditions, with one commonality — turkey.
But not everyone will have a turkey.
Curves of Londonderry wants to help by hosting a "Give a Gobble" event the week of Nov. 16 through Nov. 22. During this event, the Londonderry Curves will waive the initial service fee for any new member who brings in either a full bag of non-perishable groceries or a $30 contribution, all to be donated to the local food bank.
"We chose this organization because the food pantries are struggling to meet increased needs," said Carole Sancoff, owner of Curves.
"Our goal is to donate 1000 pounds or more of groceries or monetary donations and I think we can do it."
The "Give a Gobble" event will be a time for long-term members and new members alike to have fun, get to know each other and help the community simultaneously. The festivities will include exchanges of healthy recipes during workout hours and decorating tips.
"'Give a Gobble' is just a great way for us to get into the giving spirit and to also help those in need at the same time," Sancoff said.
