Day of Honor
Birch Heights, located oon Kendall Pond Road in Derry is hosting a Day of Honor for Veterans on Nov. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. The day includes an informational seminar, bag piper, buffet bar and a memorial service in the Birch Heights Chapel. Call 425-7755 for more information.

Derry Veterans Day activities are sponsored by VFW Post 1617 & Ladies and Men's Auxiliary and American Legion Post 9, Auxiliary and Honor Guard and are held on Nov. 11. Gravesite ceremonies begin at the cemetery on Gilcrest Rd, Londonderry at 8 a.m. and continue at Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. Services will be held at St. Luke's Church, 63 East Broadway, Derry at 10 a.m. with concluding services, raising the flag and final salutes at MacGregor Park to follow. Open house at VFW Post 1617, 18 Railroad Ave. at noon. Call 432-9702 for more information.
Londonderry's American Legion Post No. 27 will hold its Veterans Day parade on Saturday, Nov.14 beginning at 10 a.m. from Londonderry High School to the Town Common where Maj. Dan Tamburello will be the guest speaker.
Scouting for food
Local Boy Scout Troops are putting out door hangers on residents' homes to ask for help with a food drive. Local food pantries are running low and your help is needed. Pick up for the nonperishable items will be on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Her time of the year
License plate of the week was found on a Massachusetts-registered silver SUV at a bank drive-thru window, where, we can only assume, she was withdrawing cash to purchase eye of newt, flying monkey chow and maybe an umbrella ... just in case. The plate read — "WKDWCH."

After the Londonderry Charter Commission voted 6-3 to go ahead with putting a question to voters in 2011 about changing from Town Meeting to ballot voting, Commissioner Steve Young, who was one of the three nays, said, "This is the day the music died." -
Londonderry voters to decide future of Town Meeting
Voters will decide in March whether to break with tradition and move to ballot-style voting. If they opt for the change, it would take effect in 2012 and Town Meeting would be history in Londonderry.

Woman celebrates 109th birthday
Derry's oldest resident was pretty in pink when she celebrated a milestone birthday Monday. Catherine Dion turned 109 on July 26 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, where she is a resident.
