RAYS wrap up winter season this weekend

RAYS wrap up winter season at state meet

LONDONDERRY — Members of the Rockingham Area Youth Swim team are winding down their season this weekend at the Granite State Champs meet in Exeter.

More than 15 teams will compete, including about 120 members of the 175-member RAYS. The team includes children, ages 5 to 19, from eight local towns. They swim out of the Londonderry and Salem Workout Club pools.

The RAYS are a USA Swimming registered club and participate in several USA meets throughout the season. They also participate in dual meets with teams from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont.

The Age Group meet is an elite meet that swimmers must have qualifying times to attend. It's a real accomplishment to do this. The follow RAYS recently qualified for the Age Group meet: Ellen Courtemanche, 14, Londonderry; Julia Bushell, 14, Windham; Jessica Martin, 14, Derry; Allison McCarthy, 14, Londonderry; Nick Bergstrom, 14, Derry; Alex Flinn, 14, Nashua; Haley Bowen, 17, Litchfield; Jillian Serrantino, 10, Pelham; and Mackenzie Donovan, 10, Londonderry.

The team is divided into three categories. The Manta Rays are novices, the Sting Rays are intermediate swimmers and the Devil Rays are more experienced competitive swimmers.

The RAYS' summer season will begin in early May. Visit www.rays-nh.org for more information.
