Sound check
Children's entertainer Judy Pancoast was interviewing fourth-graders at Matthew Thornton Elementary School in the hallway for her new radio show, "Judy's Tune Room," when a custodian began rolling a trash barrel down the hall. The show's producer, Jordan Shea, a junior at Londonderry High, paused the tape recorder until the rumbling faded away. But, not five minutes later, the custodian had turned the corner and came rolling up the hallway from the opposite direction.
Vote of confidence
As volunteers counted ballots during Monday's Derry Town Council recount vote, longtime Supervisor of the Checklist Roland Routhier was on hand for the official events of the morning.
Resident and unsuccessful Town Council candidate Al Dimmock was also on hand to watch the proceedings and gave Routhier a big thumbs-up for his long service to the town.
"He's one of the nicest guys in town," Dimmock said.
A furry new friend
Derry Public Library has a new friend hanging out in the Children's Room. Chippy the Squirrel has taken up shop in a cute, handmade tree standing in the room. Chippy is stuffed and presently is perched in a nest hanging from one of the tree's branches. Children voted for their favorite name for their new mascot and Chippy took top honors. Library staffers said the squirrel would be wearing green this week for St. Patrick's Day.
Prayers answered
As the damp rains fell on Sunday, worshippers at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on East Broadway were dry as a bone. Now that the church has a new roof, all previous wet spots and leaks coming from the historic church ceiling are a thing of the past, according to Pastor Catherine Sprigg. The new roof was included in that day's prayer requests. The church continues its fundraising to finish the roof project on the nearby parsonage building.
