Something fishy

With bass fishing proposed as an official high school sanctioned varsity sport, Pinkerton Academy students had their own ideas early on about what to call their team.

Tradition has all Pinkerton teams being called the Astros in honor of famed alumnus and first American in space Alan B. Shepard Jr.

The witty anglers jokingly suggested perhaps they should be called the “Basstros” instead.

Staying connected

Derry Town Councilor Phyllis Katsakiores may have been out of sight, but she wasn’t out of mind or unable to vote.

During a recent Derry Town Council meeting, Katsakiores was ready and able to vote on the final budget number, but from the comfort of her home.

Katsakiores was recovering from some health issues, but was connected by conference phone to hear all the details.

Duck, duck, duck ...

Spring is in full bloom, and birds and beast are welcoming babies in large numbers.

Reader Deanna Sheldon stopped to help yet another mother duck get her brood across Mammoth Road last week.

Deanna and the ducks were assisted by a Londonderry police officer, who activated his blue lights and guided the flock across the road.

See Deanna’s picture on Page 13.
