Rec department kicks off the season

DERRY — Blast off into summer on Friday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School with the Super Summer Sampler. Join the Derry Recreation Department and more than 20 other organizations for this new free event combining games, community resources and live entertainment.

This is the perfect opportunity for families to learn about various activities and events Derry has to offer during the summer all while playing free carnival-style games. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Steve Blunt and his Rockin’ Kids Band will perform.

Group demonstrations will take place before and after the musical performance. For more information, contact the Derry Recreation Department at 432-6136.

DERRY — The 2014 Boys Basketball Camp at Pinkerton Academy will be held in two, four-day sessions, July 7-10 and July 14-17.

Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

There are three age divisions: 8-9, 10-12, and 13-15.

The cost is $100 for one week, $200 for two weeks.

Applications are available at Derry parks and Recreation, school offices and online at pinkertonacademy.net, click on Athletics, Summer Camps, Boys Basketball and camp.

Red and White Field Hockey Camp returns

DERRY — Red and White Field Hockey Camp will be held at Pinkerton Academy on the field hockey field July 7-11 and July 14-18.

It’s open to all players, new and advanced, in fifth through 12th grade.

This is a half-day camp, running from 8 a.m. to noon.

The cost is $100 for one week, $180 for two weeks.

Jennifer Resmini is the head coach of the Pinkerton Field Hockey Program, the 2012 Division 1 State Champions and 2013 Division 1 State Runner-Up. She has 10 years of coaching experience in a variety of sports and at various levels. Campers will be instructed in the fundamental skills and strategies. Each camp day will consist of skill stations and contests, instruction in game strategies, lectures, and small and large field team play.
