LONDONDERRY — White Birch Fine Art Gallery will be closing its doors on Mohawk Drive July 31. Artist and owner Elaine Farmer said while the art lessons at the studio inside the gallery are going well, sales of artwork have been slow.

The gallery opened June 1, 2009, and Farmer hosted many shows over the last year, including the recent "UFOs for Unframed Original Artwork."

"I will continue to give lessons from my home studio as I did before the gallery opened," she said.

Farmer, an award-winning artist, previously gave lessons at her Chase Road home for 10 years.

"I'll still be holding workshops with three to four instructors in different mediums," she said. "I'll keep the name White Birch Fine Art and we'll be part of the Art in Action in October."

Farmer also is busy organizing the sixth annual Art on the Common, scheduled for Sept. 12. She is looking for artists to exhibit in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing/color pencil, mixed media and photography. Computer-generated art and digitally enhanced or altered photographs will not be accepted.

The cost is $50 per exhibitor with first-, second- and third-place ribbons awarded in each category. There is a monetary award for first place only. The rain date is Sept. 13.
