LONDONDERRY — Resident Bob Spiegelman paused in his 57-day bike tour from Miami to Portland, Maine, to visit U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in Washington, D.C.
Spiegelman is riding along the East Coast Greenway. The Greenway is a partnership effort encouraging the development of infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians along the Eastern Seaboard.
The Greenway is a 3,000-mile long green city-to-city travel corridor that connects state and local trails with on-road segments from Florida to Maine.
Trails comprise nearly 25 percent of the route, and advocates have set a goal of achieving a route that is 95 percent free of motorized traffic by 2030.
Spiegelman is riding to raise funds and awareness for the Greenway.
His tour is sponsored by Cabot Creameries of Vermont, which supports farmers, cooperatives, credit unions and volunteer groups, and is working to highlight that the United Nations has declared 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives.
