LONDONDERRY — Winter weather fans are invited to spend a day wandering the Musquash land.
On Feb. 11, Londonderry Conservation Commission and the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension will host the 22nd annual Musquash Conservation Area Field Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Explore new trails, hike to cellarholes, learn winter botany, and discover local wildlife and forestry.
During the day, families can try snowshoes provided by EMS of Manchester and free refreshments around a toasty fire.
The term Musquash comes from the Algonquin word for muskrat. The approximately 900-acre area was established in 1979 . It includes rolling hills, wetlands, marked trails, and wooded habitat for moose, deer and beavers.
It also offers recreation trails, hiking spots and open space for a variety of activities.
Musquash is owned by the town of Londonderry and managed by the Conservation Commission.
Children, pets and residents of all ages are welcome. The event is held snow or shine.
Located off High Range Road, with access points off Hickory Hill Road, Sara Beth Lane and Alexander Road, the conservation land is the largest recreation area in town with a well-established trail system.
Parking is at the end of Hickory Hill Road off High Range Road.
To get to the conservation area from Route 102, follow Mammoth Road north, taking a left onto Pillsbury Road at the lights. Follow Pillsbury approximately one mile to High Range Road. Turn right onto High Range and follow 1.2 miles to a left turn onto Hickory Hill Drive.
