---- — In the pink

Valvoline Instant Oil Change at 50 Crystal Ave. in Derry is in the pink these days.

Throughout October, the business joins with those in 13 other states to offer pink windshield wipers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A real price rollback

To honor Benson's Lumber and Hardware and its 100th year in business this year, local stores offered 1913 prices at a tent sale last weekend.

In addition to offering good prices, Benson staff served up about 2,000 hamburgers and hot dogs to hungry shoppers.

A nice ring to it

Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith told Gov. Maggie Hassan and the Executive Council that his town has a lot to offer, not only apples, but also the fact that 75 percent of the Manchester airport actually lies in Londonderry.

"We still allow them to call it Manchester airport," Smith joked, "as it has a better ring to it."

Take your pick

Gov. Maggie Hassan came to Londonderry for an Executive Council meeting Oct. 2 and was told that the town had many apples ripe for the picking.

Town Manager Kevin Smith urged the governor to stop by and pick a few on the way back to the Statehouse.

"Yes, go pick the apples," Hassan answered, "but pay for them, too."

It's about time

South Elementary School in Londonderry has buried some history in the school's garden courtyard. A time capsule lies beneath the soil in the garden, buried in 2009 and not due to be opened until 2030. An inscription on a plaque lies above the capsule.

"We welcome future students to peek into our past," the plaque reads.
