DERRY — A summer checklist can involved many things — check the bike helmet before taking a ride, use sunscreen, wear your seatbelt.
One more thing to remember is to help save a life by giving blood.
With supplies critically low, the American Red Cross urges people to use the summer season to give the gift of life.
The Red Cross and the Derry Police Department are teaming up for a summer blood drive on June 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Promises to Keep, 199 Rockingham Road.
The drive will include a cookout provided by the Greater Derry Salvation Army, ice cream courtesy of Clam Haven and pizza provided by Domino's Pizza of Derry.
All donors will receive a limited edition Fenway Park 100th Year celebration shirt, a coupon from Friendly's for a carton of ice cream, a coupon for a day pass to a New Hampshire state park and a $10 coupon for a M/S Mt. Washington Cruise.
Donors are also eligible to enter a drawing for a chance to win two Boston Red Sox tickets and be honored as the Blood Donor of the Game.
The Derry Police summer drive is usually a big success. Last year, 349 pints of blood were collected.
The police department also hosts a winter blood drive, typically in January.
Appointments are recommended for the blood drive by calling the Red Cross at (800)-733-2767 or go to redcrossblood.org.
Walk-ins are also welcome.
