LONDONDERRY — Sept. 1 marks the first day of school for Southern New Hampshire Montessori Academy, located in The Commons in Londonderry.
The school — SNHMA — offers kindergarten and lower elementary instruction (grades one through three) and will continue to expand their program to meet the growing needs of the student base.
"We are planning to open with about 30 to 36 children and expand to 125 taking them through middle school," said Debra Hogan, the school's founder and director. Hogan, a Londonderry resident, said her youngest child is now in his fourth year at the Derry Montessori School, which he attended for pre-school and kindergarten.
"The Derry school has been wonderful for him," Hogan said. "But their elementary program only has a small number of children and wouldn't provide the social dimension I'm looking at for my son."
After leaving a 25-year business career in the telecommunications industry, Hogan began a year ago, to pursue the prospects of bringing an elementary charter school to Southern New Hampshire. Her vision for SNHMA is to compliment the many successful and long-standing Montessori schools in the area that offer early childhood education with an option for children to continue their Montessori educational experience through elementary and middle school.
The academy is situated adjacent to both apple orchards and wetlands in The Commons off Nashua Road.
"This magnificent location fortifies us with an eco-mecca for our outdoor classroom to expand the kinesthetic learning experience for our students," Hogan said.
At the forefront and complimenting the strong academic core, the enrichment program curriculum includes elementary Latin, creative arts, and daily physical education. The spacious, modern, and fully equipped classrooms include a library/media room, science lab, as well as kitchen and laundry teaching room.
SNHMA is accepting registrations for the fall and will hold its first Parent Information Meeting at the Tupelo Music Hall, 2 Young Road in Londonderry on May 13 at 7 p.m. For information, call Debra Hogan at 505-1632, e-mail at email@example.com or visit www.snhma.org.
