LONDONDERRY — Kayla Pinard went all out with her lemonade stand on Saturday, May 10, at the Water's Edge Salon and Spa. She put sugar rims around the edges of the plastic cups and added wedges of limes. Kayla, 8, wore a pink princess dress to celebrate Hollywood Day at the salon.

The proceeds from Kayla's fancy lemonade went to Easter Seals.

To celebrate 18 years in business, Water's Edge planned 18 theme days with activities to coincide with each day's theme. The last one, Hollywood Day was all about glitz and glamour — and raising money for charity.

Shelly Devlin, Water's Edge owner, said she and the salon's employees are inspired by people like Samantha Gibbs, a child who has fought leukemia for the past three years.

Devlin closed her shop for one day three years ago so that Samantha and her family could enjoy a free spa day and have their nails, hair and makeup done. It was something Devlin said she could do to help the family get through a tough time.

The experience has led Devlin and her staff to do other fundraising and charity events.

The spa raffled its Queen/King Victorian spa package (a $275 value) and donated manicures to the Birthday Squad of the Manchester CareGivers Association. The squad goes to clients' homes with a birthday cake and other goodies. Devlin said that a manicurist will go with the squad or invite the client to visit to the salon for the manicure.

With each purchase of two cans of hairspray, Devlin donated a manicure to be included in the Birthday Squad's package. They called it 'Edie's Hair Spray Sale' in memory of a customer, Edith Hazelton, "and her love for hair spray," Devlin said. Spa employees have fond memories of Hazelton's request that they use enough hair spray to maintain her hairdo for at least seven days, maybe more, they said.

Hollywood Day also included food donations from Blackberry Bakery and Rig A'Tony's to be enjoyed by salon guests and visitors.
