Derry police swear in new officer

DERRY — Officer Daniel McCarthy, a Methuen native, is the newest member of the Derry Police Department.

McCarthy was officially sworn in Dec. 18 by police Chief Edward Garone.

McCarthy will be a member of the 163rd New Hampshire Full-time Police Academy, which starts Jan. 6, 2014. His anticipated graduation date is April 11, 2014.

McCarthy is a 2006 graduate of Methuen High School, where he played golf and hockey.

He is working on a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Fitchburg State University.

McCarthy graduated from the 263rd New Hampshire Part-time Police Academy in May. He spent the summer working as a police officer at Hampton Beach.
