Shop close to home

Londonderry Town Councilor Tom Dolan was all decked out in his Santa hat and scarf during a meeting Dec. 16.

Dolan was letting people know how important it was to shop locally for the holidays.

The hat and scarf were made by Nevins community resident Louise Holt, Dolan said.

“Buy local,” he said, “they make good stuff.”

Time to update zoning

The Derry Planning Board hopes to start the new year by taking a look at all the town’s zoning and what’s allowed where.

During a recent workshop with town councilors, Planning Board Chairman David Granese said it was long overdue and many zoning rules are quite old.

“Some go back a long, long time,” he said. “You can shoe a horse downtown.”

A model chief

During a recent Londonderry Town Council meeting, police Chief Bill Hart showed councilors a new look for police uniforms.

The department will add another style of uniform to its collection. Hart took a turn to show off the back of the new look.

“And on the back it will say “EVENT” staff as well,” he joked.

Council Chairman John Farrell told Hart he made a good model.

‘Bat out of ...’ Derry?

Some motorists traveling Route 102 in Derry recently might have thought a well-known musician and actor was in town.

The electronic sign in front of the Derry restaurant screams: “MEATLOAF.”

Turns out they were advertising a dinner special and not an appearance by the living Meat Loaf.

Least resistance?

A silver sedan was spotted on Route 102 recently with this vanity license plate: “OHM-RUN.”
