'Walk the Land: Celebrate Life!' in Derry

Derry News

---- — DERRY — Five years ago, Etz Hayim Synagogue, The Church of the Transfiguration and more than 200 people celebrated Israel’s 60th birthday with a walk through Derry.

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., presented one of the opening speeches. This walk was part of a global celebration that united nearly 100,000 participants in 100 communities worldwide.

This Sunday, May 5, at noon there will be another walk for Israel’s 65th birthday, “Walk the Land: Celebrate Life!”

The 1.2-mile walk will highlight the contributions that Israel has made to the world. It begins at the interfaith campus of the synagogue and the church at One Hood Road.

Afterward, there will be food, fun, music by Israel My Delight, dancing, crafts for the kids and cultural information.

Sixty five years ago, Israel was a barren country with little water and no natural resources. Half of its land mass was desert. Today it has become an oasis of innovation, technology and culture. Israel is smaller than New Hampshire.

People attending the walk will learn about innovations in fertility, agriculture and animal life; ecological advances that preserve the environment worldwide; humanitarian missions worldwide; medical advances; security advances; creative inventions; welfare organizations; societal values; cultural outreach; and educational training.

Everyone is invited to join the walk for Israel on Sunday, May 5.
