SPECTATOR

Position of power

During a Derry Town Council budget workshop April 18, Town Clerk Denise Neale left her corner desk.

That’s where she regularly takes notes. She moved to the main council desk to make her official town clerk/elections budget presentation.

“I don’t have to take minutes while you do this, do I?” Town Councilor Neil Wetherbee asked Neale.

“Oh, would you like to?” she responded.

What’s my line?

A white SUV was spotted on Interstate 93 last week, sporting the vanity N.H. plate: “G-4ORCE.”

Some really make you wonder. Was this a race car driver at the wheel of his everyday vehicle? A military jet pilot?

Or could it be one of the few fans of the 2009 Disney flick of that name? We sure hope no one is that enamored with guinea pigs fighting evil.

Back where we began

Derry and Londonderry were once joined in history as a single town.

Maybe it’s time to revisit that trend, Derry Town Administrator jokingly announced during a recent “State of the Region” event.

Anderson spoke of high taxes in town, mostly due to a rising school budget. He was asked what might shift the tax burden more evenly between town and school.

“Merge back with Londonderry,” he answered.

BYOW

Bring Your Own Worms Sunday to the fishing derby at the Londonderry Fish and Game Club.

Derry also hosts its fishing derby this weekend. In past years, organizers have actually sold worms to children for 5 cents a cup.
