---- — DERRY — The Upper Room benefited from many hands ready to support the local family resource center.

Area businesses have “adopted” the family resource center on Tsienneto Road and are taking on major renovations, including new flooring, paint and exterior improvements.

“This has just been an unbelievable gift to us,” Upper Room executive director Kimberly Bavaro said. “It’s just tremendous.”

Bavaro said all work comes through volunteer efforts at no cost to The Upper Room, something she called a “mini extreme makeover.”

Volunteers from Nora Systems Inc. in Salem approached The Upper Room last spring to ask if they could come on board to help.

In the last nine months, great things have happened, Upper Room officials said.

“They have done significant work outside,” Upper Room staff member Brenda Guggisberg said. “They have created a welcoming and inviting entry for all visitors, they have assisted with food basket distribution, the ice cream social, and have done coat drives and food drives. The latest work is really over the top.”

Volunteers joined with Northeast Flooring and Merrimac Tile to replace the entire floor in The Upper Room’s Briggs Center space.

That room is named for Upper Room supporter, board member and past president Jack Briggs. It is the most utilized space in the building.

“The hours and hours of donated time, products and services have been overwhelming to the staff and many families who utilize our service,” Guggisberg said.

Lisa Leclair of Nora Systems Inc. said helping The Upper Room has been a great experience for everyone involved.

“It kind of brightens our day, too,” she said. “They deserve it. The people who use The Upper Room, they deserve it, too.”
