LONDONDERRY — Members of the Londonderry Task Force dealing with economic development issues received a draft report on Thursday night, June 25, of the early recommendations from consultant O2 - Generations of Creative Energy.
Gary O'Neil, the principal of O2, noted that Londonderry residents continually stated to him that they wanted balanced growth, the kind of growth that did not disrupt the nature of the community, yet it provided a predictable tax base so that Londonderry could meet future needs.
O'Neil also presented the idea that the State of New Hampshire needed to address the oft-mentioned (but never defined) New Hampshire Advantage. He offered that there were approximately 50 different elements that comprise the New Hampshire Advantage, thus making any singular issue that might change, less catastrophic.
"The fact that New Hampshire as a whole has advanced so dramatically in the previous decades in areas such as technology, infrastructure, affordable housing, modern and efficient highways, and of course, our magnificent Manchester-Boston Regional Airport mean that New Hampshire — and Londonderry in particular — offer quite a bit more to businesses and their employees than ever before," O'Neil said.
O2 made the recommendation that Londonderry also consider adopting one of two themes presented Thursday night. There was a lively discussion by Task Force members who seemed to favor the phrase: "Londonderry. Business is good. Life is better!"
The Task Force recommended that O2's report also be presented at an upcoming Planning Board meeting in order to gain additional input and perspective.
"Working with the Town has been really enjoyable," O'Neil said.
"It is evident that the people of Londonderry are served well by their elected leaders, Town professionals and media who collectively get the word out regarding issues such as economic development."
Once final approvals are granted, O2 and website provider Silvertech will begin construction of the Town's economic development website, and the Office of Planning and Economic Development will begin a targeted marketing campaign at businesses that fit the characteristics that would make them contributing members of life in Londonderry.
