Celebrate the Fourth
Derry celebrates the Fourth of July this Saturday with its annual fireworks display. The sparkling festivities begin at approximately 9 p.m. Best viewing areas are Hood Commons, the area near Wal-Mart, and also along Tsienneto Road.
Guess it's hers
The New Hampshire license plate of the week was found on Rt. 495 in Massachusetts last week on a black SUV. Apparently the Mrs. was trying to make her point very clear, as to whose vehicle it is. The license plate read "NOT HIS."
It's only fair
After having been the object of a candidate screening process on his way to being named chief of Police in Londonderry, Chief Bill Hart is now sliding behind the other side of the interview table. Hart is participating as part of a screening committee to find a new chief of police in the town of Stratham.
Local heroes
Derry fishermen John Mitchell and Mike Farmer helped save the lives of two men while fishing near the mouth of the Merrimack River in Newburyport over the weekend. Mitchell and Farmer heard the blaring horn and screams for help from two men, whose 20-foot recreational boat was taking on water. They called the Coast Guard, who responded and pulled the distressed boaters to safety.
WMUR to feature Aramini
When Chester native Gary Aramini returned to New Hampshire to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his "Run Across America" for cancer research in 1984, he celebrated not only his own accomplishments, but those of others still battling the disease. Ararmini attended the recent Relay for Life in Derry and continued his quest to help others beat cancer. A special program on Aramini's cross-country feat in 1984 will be broadcast on WMUR-TV's NH Chronicle program on July 7 at 7:30 p.m. The show can be viewed online at www.wmur.com.
