Beginning Sept. 4, the Derry News will replace its twice-weekly print format with a weekly print edition to be delivered to homes and on the newsstand every Thursday.
This new weekly edition will include all of the same features Derry News readers have come to depend on and look forward to in the twice-weekly format, combined into one, compact, environmentally friendly edition.
"We are not reducing coverage in any way," said Publisher Ellen Zappala. "In fact, in addition to all of the news, information and entertainment our readers expect, we'll be adding some new, exciting features to the weekly print edition."
This exciting transition also allows the Derry News to be a part of the green movement. Combining modern communications technology with a commitment to global stewardship, Zappala said the Derry News has the unique opportunity to enhance its coverage of Derry, Londonderry and Chester in an environmentally responsible manner.
For many years, the Derry News was a weekly publication before switching to the twice-weekly model in the 1980s.
In addition to the weekly print edition, Derry News readers will find daily updates on the publication's Web site, www.derrynews.com. According to Editor Bill Gilman, the enhanced Web site offers the residents of Derry, Londonderry and Chester the chance to get up-to-date local news coverage faster than ever before.
"We'll be updating the site daily with breaking news from police and fire, town government and sports," said Gilman. "We will make sure that information important to the residents of our communities is on www.derrynews.com. Between the Web site and the print edition, we'll be able to provide residents with the most comprehensive coverage of their communities."
Gilman said the expanded Web site will also include more photos, slide shows and multimedia presentations.
"The Derry News has been a leader in community news coverage in Southern New Hampshire for more than 125 years," said Gilman. "We take that responsibility seriously and will continue to look for new and innovative ways to serve our readership."
