Condo fire likely cooking-related

DERRY — Fire broke out in a first-floor apartment in the Hillside Estates condominium complex on Monday.

Emergency personnel from Derry and surrounding towns responded to the call at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a first-floor unit #3, at 4 Pembroke Drive, off Silvestri Circle in the Hillside Estates community.

Derry Fire Battalion Chief David Hoffman said heavy smoke filled the first floor apartment and all building tenants were evacuated safely. One person received minor injuries, Hoffman said.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Hoffman said all was clear and under control and tenants were waiting to re-enter the building. Fire inspectors were investigating the area.

The kitchen of the condo suffered damage, Hoffman said, adding he was "99 percent" sure the blaze was cooking-related.

Towns aiding Derry in response included Auburn, Windham, Chester, Hampstead, and Londonderry. Salvation Army representatives arrived on site to help people being evacuated from the building.
