DERRY — Summer music lovers are gearing up for another series of concerts under the stars as Derry Parks and Recreation hosts its 2009 free concert series in MacGregor Park.
The summer lineup of concerts begins July 7 with an appearance by concert favorites Pony Express. Concerts continue every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and are free of charge.
This year's schedule includes returning favorites and new faces to the MacGregor Park stage.
The park summer schedule for 2009 includes the following:
July 7, Pony Express, one of the area's premier country bands, performing across New England for more than 10 years.
July 9, Mirage Band, returning to MacGregor Park for another summer performance. The band performs a repertroire of songs ranging from pop to classic rock, country and much more.
July 14, New England Voices in Harmony and Granitestatesmen Barbershoppers return to the park stage offering the best in four-part a cappella barbershop harmonies.
July 16, Mama Kicks returns to Derry's MacGregor Park with its classic rock sounds.
July 21, White Mt. Bluegrass appears. The band has been touring and playing together for more than three decades.
July 23, Skinny Ties, a four-piece New England-based New Wave band, offering 20 years experience playing hits from the late 70s and early 80s.
July 28, Souled Out Show Band, with funk, Motown, and tight vocals.
July 20, Grinning Lizards, a park concert series favorite, featuring Paul Costley, Dave Zangri, John Bridge and Mark Levreault, all well-known musicians throughout the area.
Aug. 4, Kidz Night Out End of Summer Bash, begins at 5 p.m. A performance by Drama Kids begins at 6:30 p.m. Come to the park to enjoy inflatable moon jumps provided by Fun Bounce Inc. Games, snacks, and family fun. A showing of the film "Hotel for Dogs" is featured on the big screen in the park.
Aug. 6, Recycled Percussion rounds out the 2009 concert series with its eighth performance in Derry. Hard-rock drummming led by Justin Spencer and his team.
