New books, old favorites and buried treasures

DERRY — The Derry Public Library announces the introduction of a new e-mail newsletter service called NextReads. An e-mail address is all you need to subscribe to any of the 22 different newsletters, all of which provide great reading suggestions.

Fiction and nonfiction newsletter topics include biography and memoir, fantasy, mystery, nature and science, and audiobooks, as well as two children's newsletters and one for young adults. Newsletters are sent via email on a monthly or every-other-month basis, and include up to 12 book recommendations each. Subscribers can link directly to the Derry Public Library catalog from books of interest on the newsletters, and place a hold. In addition, patrons can directly request books from other libraries within the consortium of 13 libraries, allowing them even greater access to the books they can't wait to read. Even those library patrons without e-mail addresses can take advantage of the newsletters by viewing them online at our website, either at the library or from any Internet access point.

The library sees the introduction of the NextReads service as being an important part of their outreach to the community. The Derry Public Library hopes to better serve its many library patrons who are less able to visit the facility in person to browse the shelves and book displays to find something new to read. Our newsletters will be our opportunity to bring the library to them — whether they are at work, school, home or on the road.

The Derry Public Library website, found at www.derry.lib.nh.us is considered a "virtual" branch of the library, open 24 hours a day, available 365 days a year.
