A collection of Hollywood props on display in Londonderry
I truly love writing about entertainment — all forms of fun, like music, dancing, theatre, poetry, and just events in this area that make people happy, in addition to all the talented people who perform in these venues in whatever form they love the most.
So, when I hear about something coming up that sounds particularly entertaining, I want to help get the word out there and, hopefully, many more of you out there will want to check out what it's all about.
This week, I am going to focus on something coming up right in our own backyard in Londonderry. A collection of used movie props, wardrobe, and other collectibles will be on display Friday, June 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Appletree Cinema. The man behind the collection is Darin Hollis.
Hollis said he has been collecting for about 10 years and said he wanted to bring some of the things he loves to movie fans in this area, sort of a "mini" tour. He will have his collection on exhibit in the theatre's lobby so everyone strolling by en route to see a favorite flick can check out some interesting items along the way.
I am very anxious to see the collection and I promise to follow up with photos and more information. And as a big movie fan (mainly old movies!) I am anxious to see it.
Hollis said he hopes to make his collection more available to movie fans in the area. And he wants to meet people who love movies and will answer any questions anyone may have.
"Ideally, my goal is to have a lot of success the first time around and have more of these exhibitions in the future," he wrote in an e-mail.
If you plan to be out and about on Friday and are going to take in a movie, don't forget to stop by Appletree Cinema for a great flick and some movie history at the same time. And please stay tuned for more on this event. I will keep you posted.
