DERRY — When it comes to making choral sounds, Pinkerton Academy students scored big in the recent Festival Disney adjudicated music festival.

During school vacation week, Pinkerton's choirs traveled to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the festival and came home with several awards for their singing talents.

The Select Choir received an overall "Superior" rating, the highest rating possible, and also received a Bronze Award for third highest ranking among the 14 specialty choirs in that division.

The Pinkerton Chorale received an overall "Superior" rating as well, competing in the largest school division group and finishing first for the "Best in Class" award.

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were given to the top three concert choirs in all divisions. With a total of 12 choirs in that category, Pinkerton Academy won the Gold Award as the highest-scoring concert choir in the entire festival.

The girls chorus (freshmen and sophomore) also fared well, earning an "Excellent" rating for their singing talents.

Choral director Thomas Quigley said the Orlando trip was "very successful" this year.
