Taking on the big boys of IT

HAMPSTEAD — The founder of Run System Run, a Hampstead start-up company for in-home personal computer service, says he is prepared to challenge national leaders in the business.

Lee Biggar has formed a computer services company and is offering the initial analysis and diagnostic service of home or small-business computer problems for a price he says is well below that of bigger companies.

"What I have to offer is the quality of my service and my experience," he said. "There's not a lot of room for error when dealing with the Verizon computer system as I have been doing for the past 10 years. I am bringing a level of expertise and quality service to homeowners and small businesses that they are not accustomed to. The national companies that offer similar services have to deal with huge overhead costs that I don't have and their bottom line is the most important element whereas for me the level of service I can bring to my customers is my focus."

Keeping his customers happy is the best advertising he can get, Biggar said. It is happy customers who tell their friends and neighbors about Run System Run and that is what helps him meet his financial goals.

Biggar believes that the vast majority of personal and professional computer services don't need to be expensive.

"With today's professional technological tools at our disposal, we can fully test and diagnose a computer in 30 to 45 minutes," said Biggar. "We're ahead of the curve by offering these services on more of a commodity-based pricing structure. But where customers will truly see the difference between Run System Run and the nationals is the level of service, expertise and attention they will receive for a fraction of the cost. With my services, getting your computer repaired won't cost as much as getting a new one."

His system of providing service is simple. Once the diagnosis is complete the customer will be handed a system "report card" that will show the customer exactly what needs to be done to fix or repair the computer and how long it will take to accomplish it.

"If the customer chooses to have the repair done right then, (an hourly charge) will apply when we begin," he said. "We're charging what we feel the services are worth given the average cost of a personal computer. Our goal is to maximize the life of personal computers through maintenance and routine upgrades."

Biggar said he saw a real need for reasonably priced personal computer repair services and realized it was time for him to be his own boss and do what he finds rewarding. While he is more focused on home users at present he is prepared and ready to handle small and even medium business projects including ones with their own server or ones with more than one network. He said he is up front with customers and tells them when something is not cost-effective to fix or that something that needs fixing is necessary for how they use their computer.

"I want to work with the homeowner and work within their budget and personal computer repair and services don't need to break the bank," he said.

Run System Run is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Emergency service is available on weekends.
